A Scientific and Educational Lecture on “Coins of Jochi” Was Held
On January 27, 2026, a scientific and educational lecture titled “Coins of Jochi” was held at the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies. The event was organized by Ershat Ardak, a first-year PhD student of the Translation Studies program. Faculty members and students participated in the lecture.
The main purpose of the lecture was to introduce the historical and economic processes of the Jochi Ulus period through numismatic sources, as well as to highlight the significance of the Golden Horde era in the history of statehood.
During the lecture, authentic coins belonging to the Jochi dynasty from the collection of the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan were presented. Detailed information was provided on the time of minting, inscriptions, symbolism, and historical significance of the coins. Special attention was given to symbols of authority and religious concepts depicted on the coins as important historical sources reflecting the political and cultural characteristics of the period.
As part of the event, a discussion was held among students, contributing to the development of their historical awareness and interest in national heritage. The lecture aligns with the key ideas expressed in the 2026 Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting national cultural heritage for future generations.
