Utebalieva delivered a presentation entitled “Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Enhancing the Efficiency of Criminal Justice” in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.
On January 26–27, 2026, an international scientific and practical symposium entitled “STEAM: Synergy of Artificial Intelligence and Values in Education” was held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan.
Within the framework of the symposium, Karlygash Yerzhanovna Utebalieva, a 1st-year PhD doctoral student of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics of the Faculty of Law, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, delivered a scientific presentation entitled “Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Enhancing the Efficiency of Criminal Justice” in the context of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.”
The presentation addressed theoretical and practical aspects of the application of artificial intelligence technologies in criminal justice proceedings. The author substantiated the potential of artificial intelligence to improve the effectiveness of justice, including the optimization of procedural decision-making, ensuring transparency of judicial proceedings, reducing the influence of the human factor in law enforcement practice, and the role of digital tools in ensuring fair justice.
In addition, the presentation formulated conclusions on legal, ethical, and security issues arising from the use of artificial intelligence, as well as the need to ensure its compatibility with the principles of criminal procedure.
