95th Anniversary of Academician Zholdasbekov

SDG-4 The 95th anniversary of the birth of prominent statesman and public figure, Academician Omirbek Zholdasbekov, is being commemorated. In honor of the distinguished leader, whose life was devoted to tireless service and dedication to his country, the book titled “Academician Omirbek Zholdasbekov. Life. Service. Destiny” was officially presented. The author of the book is writer and journalist Kolbay Adyrbekuly. The scientific and practical roundtable held on the occasion of the presentation was moderated by Doctor of Philology, Academician Kanseit Abdezuly.

The book opens with a foreword by statesman and public figure Zhaxybek Kulekeev, who highlights Zholdasbekov’s immense contribution to the development of national education and science, as well as his moral integrity and leadership qualities.

Based on previously unpublished materials from the Republican Archives, the book describes events beginning in the 1970s, when Academician Zholdasbekov made a significant contribution to the advancement of national science. It details his dedicated efforts in initiating the construction of the university campus in 1971, as well as his political struggle for social justice between 1986 and 1989 against G. Kolbin, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, and other party officials. Particular emphasis is placed on his resilience during critical periods and the challenges of his fate.

The publication also provides extensive information about individuals associated with the academician. It highlights his role in founding the Engineering Academy in the early years of independence and elevating its scientific work to an international level within a short period. Newly uncovered archival materials also shed light on his active work as a Member of Parliament of Kazakhstan, where he consistently defended national interests.
