A Seminar Entitled “Oriental Studies and Environmental Issues in the Context of Globalization” Was Held
On February 20, 2026, a seminar entitled “Oriental Studies and Environmental Issues in the Context of Globalization” was held at the Department of Chinese Studies. The event was organized in accordance with the faculty’s educational and mentoring plan. Second-year student Zhansaya Tursunbekova delivered a presentation based on a research topic she has been studying for some time as part of her academic project. In her report, she provided a general overview of the environmental situation in Eastern countries, placing particular emphasis on China as the primary focus of her research.
In the context of globalization, China has become one of the key driving forces of the global economy. However, rapid industrialization, urbanization, and export-oriented production have led to the aggravation of environmental problems. The speaker examined China’s major environmental challenges within the framework of globalization, including air pollution, water contamination and scarcity, soil degradation and desertification, climate change, and waste management issues. These problems were supported by statistical indicators and factual evidence.
Special attention was paid to the impact of globalization on China’s environmental situation and to the country’s current environmental policies aimed at addressing these challenges.
The topic aroused significant interest among students, and the seminar concluded with an active question-and-answer session and discussion. During the debate, participants also considered what lessons Kazakhstan could learn from China’s environmental experience.
