The Central Asian–German Institute for the Protection of Ecosystem and Biodiversity at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences initiated an expert assignment within the framework of the I International Online Winter School “Sorting and Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste,” organized on the eve of the International Day of Zero Waste.

The Institute’s specialists developed an original analytical task focused on the impact of municipal solid waste on various ecosystems and biodiversity. Participants were required not only to describe the problem but also to conduct a comprehensive analysis of waste impact mechanisms, assess risks for specific plant and animal species, forecast environmental consequences for the next 5–10 years, and propose practical solutions.

The topics covered marine, forest, urban, and soil ecosystems, as well as pressing issues such as microplasticpollution, heavy metal accumulation, sanitary risks, and changes in species populations.

Winter School participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan submitted detailed and well-argued solutions. In their feedback, they emphasized the relevance of the topic, the practical orientation of the assignment, and the opportunity to apply knowledge in ecology and sustainable development to real environmental challenges.

The submitted works demonstrated a high level of academic preparation, analytical thinking, and strong interest among young people in ecosystem and biodiversity conservation.

The Institute’s participation in the Winter School became an important contribution to the development of international academic cooperation and the promotion of environmental responsibility among students.
