SDG 3 event: "Towards a healthy future without addictions"
On March 06, 2026, under the guidance of a curator G. Zhunussova, 3rd-year students of the Accounting and Auditing specialty held a curatorial hour dedicated to the problems of alcoholism and ludomania in the context of Sustainable Development Goal No.3 "Good health and well-being", adopted by the United Nations. This event was aimed at raising students' awareness of modern social and behavioral risks that negatively affect human physical and mental health, and the quality of life in society. During the curatorial hour, the relevance of the problems of alcoholism and ludomania in modern society was considered in detail.
The special attention was paid to how alcohol abuse and the development of gambling addiction can negatively affect the quality of life, interpersonal relationships, educational and professional activities. The reasons for the spread of these addictions were considered, including psychological difficulties, stress, social pressure, and the availability of gambling and alcohol. The consequence of this is the manifestation of depression, anxiety, aggression, decreased social responsibility, as well as diseases of the cardiovascular system and internal organs.
A separate section of the curatorial hour was devoted to the problem of ludomania, a pathological gambling addiction. It was noted that this dependence leads not only to financial losses, but also to serious psychological problems, the destruction of family relationships, a social isolation and a deterioration in the quality of life. The students discussed the mechanisms of gambling addiction formation, its signs and possible consequences for the individual and society.
The event also examined the relationship of these addictions to Sustainable Development Goal No.3 "Good health and well-being," which aims to ensure a healthy lifestyle and promote well-being for people of all ages. It was emphasized that the prevention of harmful addictions, the development of a healthy lifestyle culture, as well as the formation of a responsible attitude towards one's physical and mental health are important conditions for achieving this goal.
The students showed interest in the discussing topic, actively participated in the dialogue, and expressed their opinions about the causes of addictions and their consequences. In general, the main aspects of addiction prevention were considered, as well as the role of personal responsibility, awareness and a healthy lifestyle in maintaining mental and physical health. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the conscious choice, the development of self-control skills, support from family and society, and it was noted that in case of signs of dependence, it is necessary to seek professional help. This event helped students to develop a more responsible attitude towards their health and an understanding of the importance of maintaining the personal and social well-being. The discussion allowed students to better understand the relationship between individual human behavior and global sustainable development goals aimed at improving the quality of life and strengthening public health.
The event helped students to develop a more conscious attitude to their own health, develop critical thinking about bad habits and increase the level of social responsibility.
