DISCUSSED PRIORITIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE
The Academic Council discussed the results of research and innovation activities of KazNU over the past year, as well as the implementation of measures to ensure the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical development of university students.
Acting Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Activities Khaidar Tasibekov reported on the results of the university's research activities. After voicing information about the scientific achievements of the university and the challenges that it faces on the way of transformation into a research university, the speaker noted the publication activity of young scientists and doctoral students in the editions of KKSON, the WoS/Scopus database, spoke about the increase in the number of publications in journals Top 25% (Q1 ). So, in 2018-2021. 285 articles were published in publications indexed in the Scopus database. Of these, 283 articles are in Q1-Q4. By the number of publications in the Scopus database for 2021, the top four included the faculties: Mechanics and Mathematics, Physics and Technology, Chemistry and Chemical Technology and Information Technology. Within the framework of grant and program-targeted financing projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctoral students and scientists of KazNU worked on 332 research projects. The total amount of financing amounted to 4530.7 million tenge. The sources and volumes of R&D funding were also presented. According to the speaker, over the past six years, the share of articles by KazNU scientists in "predatory" publications has significantly decreased and today it is 4.5% (26.3% in 2016). Doctoral students of KazNU in 2021 implemented many projects of the Science Foundation JSC. Some of them are now undergoing expert analysis. Three projects will soon, after the stage of checking for profitability, move on to the final one - implementation.
During the academic council, the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuymebayev drew the attention of scientists to strengthening close cooperation with scientific institutions. To achieve the goals set by the government, each faculty, department, research institute must analyze all state programs and projects of the ministry and participate in their implementation in their field. Such cooperation will contribute to the development of science and innovation, as well as accelerate the transformation of the university into a research one.
The issue of dissertation councils was also discussed at the meeting. According to the rector, many topics in the humanities are repeated from year to year, which affects the quality of theses. In this regard, the rector set specific tasks for scientists and teachers.
During the meeting of the Academic Council, Acting Vice-Rector for Social Development A.R. Masalimov. The speaker made a presentation on activities to ensure the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical development of university students. Aliya Masalimova spoke about the strategy of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, as well as the results of a sociological survey among students, etc.
Discussing the problems of student youth, the rector of the university noted: “We should not have a bureaucracy. If there is a database of student activists who are actively involved in science, then you need to meet with them and discuss unresolved problems. We need to work together to solve all pressing issues in order to improve the educational process and the activities of the university.”
At the end of the meeting, the recommendations of university scientists for the award of academic titles were approved.
