On December 14, 2022, the Department of Business Technology of al-Farabi KazNU’s Higher School of Economics and Business in cooperation with Almaty Management University and Turan University conducted a qualitative study “The Gender Gap in STEM” in the form of a focus group. The study is held under the international research project “The Gender STEM Gap - Women in Higher Education” initiated by Arizona State University (USA).The focus group was supposed to help study the gender gap among STEM students (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). A group of researchers intends to compare the results of the study in STEM and non-STEM majors and understand why technical majors are attractive for men, while socio-humanities are more interesting for women. The results of the survey would help to adjust the career guidance policies of universities.The organizers of the focus group are Associate Professor of Turan University Tarakbayeva R.E., Associate Professor of Almaty Management University Lipovka A.V., senior lecturers of the Department of Business Technologies of al-Farabi KazNU Yerimpashev A.T., Adilova N. D., Abdikul Sh.N., Kazhmuratova A.K., and associate professor Akhmetkalieva S.K.
