In the framework of striving for active participation in social life and formation of civic responsibility among students, a social and educational event was held at the Far East Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Kazakh National University Al-Farabi.
The event, organised in a round table format, took place on 27 November 2023, and was attended by 2nd and 3rd year students of the Japanese studies department. The theme of the event - "SDG 1: Eradicate poverty in all its forms" was chosen not by chance, reflecting the relevance of social issues in modern society.
Students actively discussed the challenges facing the world in the context of the global fight against poverty. They expressed the importance of urgent and concerted action to address the problem, especially in light of the current challenges posed by the pandemic and the economic crisis. Participants drew attention to the experience of foreign countries, such as China, the United States and the EU countries, which have successfully acted in the fight against poverty.
In light of Kazakhstan's accession to the UN 2030 Agenda, students discussed the measures taken in the country to eliminate poverty. Despite the decreasing indicators, the level of poverty in the country requires further detailed consideration. The focus should be on supporting medium-sized businesses, state-supported economic education and removing barriers to entrepreneurship.
The participants of the event were also active in sharing their own views and ideas on how to address poverty. During the discussion, the students stressed the importance of educational and social initiatives to fight poverty, as well as the need to create programmes aimed at supporting socially vulnerable groups.
The event was not only a platform for the exchange of ideas, but also a confirmation of the importance of youth involvement in public life. The initiative of the students of the Japanese department, Faculty of Oriental Studies, supports the spirit of activism and shows that they are ready to take part in solving real social problems.
