The International Winter School – 2024: “Sustainable Development and ESG: Global Challenges, National Priorities, Effective Solutions” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Farabi University was completed.

The International Winter School, organized by the Department of Economics of the Higher School of Economics and Business dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Farabi University was held from January 8 to 19, 2024 in an online format.

Well-known scientists - professors from many countries of the world and Kazakhstan, in particular from the USA, Indonesia, Thailand, Serbia, China, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the staff of the Department of Economics of the HSEB of KazNU took part in the school.

The participants of the school were master's students from Northwest A&F University of China, as well as PhD and master's students from Ukraine and scientists from universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Professor Michael Brody from American University, USA is committed educator and a subject matter expert in the environmental sciences, with specific knowledge of environmental health, assessment and policy, environmental futures, climate change, and international environmental capacity building. Dr. Brody has broad international scientific networking experience with a focus on the former Soviet Union, especially Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Africa. He has extensive public and private sector consulting experience, having partnered with the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the State Department, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (NACEC), and Governments in Africa and Eastern Europe.  The topic of his speech was “Climate Risk Profiles in Central Asia.” during the Winter School.

Doctor of Sciences, Professor Yosini Deliana of the Department of Agricultural Social Economics from Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia, she conducts research in the areas of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development in collaboration with various national and international development agencies and foreign university such as Natural Research Institute, Greenwich University, U.K., Centre for Alleviation of Poverty through Secondary Crops’ Development in Asia and the Pacific (CAPSA), Michigan State University (MSU), and United State Agency for International Development (USAID). Topic of her lecture “Green Packaging for Environmental Frendly”.

Professor, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Alexander Kalinin from the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadim Getman, conducts scientific research on the formation of a strategy for sustainable economic development, a marketing concept for business structures. He participated in many different ERASMUS projects, business expert in social projects focused on the development of youth entrepreneurship. He gave a lecture on the topic “Economic Security of Digitalization of Investments”.

Professor Ravipim Chaveesuk, PhD, Department of Agricultural Management, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand has studied Product Development at Kasetsart University, Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry at McGill University, and Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She has published many articles and participated in many research projects and one of her research areas is “Critical Success Factor for Sustainable Marketing in Thai Silk Industry”. Professor Ravipim Chaveesuk spoke on the topic “Sustainable Food Supply Chain in Thailand”.

Nataliia Dziuba, founder and director of the "HRM" Business Academy, member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) - accredited human resource management programs in the UK, member of ECF - European Coaching Federation, Vice President of CMC - Ukraine, head of the consulting company "Booster&Development" is the USAID project manager for entrepreneurship development in Ukraine. She has extensive experience in conducting strategic sessions on risk-based planning, cost optimization and facilitation (services, production, logistics, sales, distribution, education). The topic of her lecture: “Sustainability of Human Resources and its Impact on Business Development.”

Lela Ristic, PhD, professor, has been working at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Kragujevac in Serbia for 25 years. Her scientific and research interests are economics of agriculture, agri-food, environmental and rural policy, agribusiness management, smart villages, sustainable development and tourism. She is the author of a large number of scientific papers published in the journals, international conferences, etc. At the Winter School, the topic of her speech was “Sustainable Development of Business in Rural Areas”. The focus is on: importance of building a sustainable business in rural communities; challenges - limitations and opportunities for rural economy; sustainable development of rural areas in the European Union (EU) and Serbia.

Mr. Yu Hao,  representative of POWERCHINA Zhongnan in Kazakhstan, told on the transformative initiatives underway in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His presentation, titled "Transforming Almaty: Pioneering Waste-to-Energy Solutions within Kazakhstan's Green Economy," promises to unravel innovative strategies that are shaping the environmental landscape of this vibrant city.

Milos Dimitrijevic, PhD, Research Associate at the University of Kragujevac, Department of Economics, in Serbia. His scientific and research interests are sustainable and economic development, rural and regional development, economics of agriculture, agribusiness, environmental policy and tourism. He is the author and co-author of a large number of scientific publications published in high-ranking domestic and international journals, proceedings of scientific meetings and eminent institutions. He participated in the writing of several projects. He is the member of the executive board of the Society of Economists in Kragujevac, as well as important international organizations. At the Winter School he spoke on the topic “Sustainable Development of Agribusiness”.

Dr. Ibragim Ganiev works as the Head of the Education Quality Assurance Department at the Samarkand Branch of Tashkent State University of Economics, Uzbekistan. His main field of scientific activity is the agricultural economy. In recent years, he has been continuing his research in the fields of quality of education in higher education and benchmarking in the markets of agricultural products. He participates in international projects with higher education institutions and scientific research organizations in the EU, South Korea, and the USA. He is Expert Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. The topic of the speech is “Transformation of Higher Education in Uzbekistan.”

Presentations were made by staff of the Department “Economics”: Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Mukhamediyev B.; Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Baitanayeva B. and PhD: Rakhmatullayeva D., Kondybayeva S., Temerbulatova Zh., Nurgazy Sh. The moderator of the International Winter School was Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department “Economics” Yessengaziyeva S.

The Head of the International Winter School – 2024: “Sustainable Development and ESG: Global Challenges, National Priorities, Effective Solutions”, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Acting Professor Dauliyeva Galiya Rakhmetovna had a speech at the closing ceremony. She expressed sincere gratitude to all the professors for participating and shared their experience in this International Winter School. She noted that the work of this school covered all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, explored the intricacies of sustainable development, environmental, social and governance aspects, and considered effective solutions that connect global problems with national priorities.
