Scientists of KazNU took part in the discussion of the bill "On science and technology policy"

A meeting of the Public Chamber under the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of VIII convocation was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The meeting was attended by members of the Majilis of the Parliament of the RK Aydos Sarym, Tansaule Serikov, Ekaterina Smyshlyaeva, Anas Bakkozhaev, Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Darhan Ahmed-Zaki, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of the RK, heads of universities, directors of research institutes, experts and researchers, scientists-experts of KazNU.

Participants discussed the bill "On Science and Technology Policy", which is currently under consideration in the lower house of parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was opened by the deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament, Chairman of the Public Chamber Aidos Sarym.

"The Law "On Science" is one of the most important laws for all of us. The growth of any economic indicator depends on the development of science. The head of state Kasym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to double the gross domestic product by 2029. Obviously, it is impossible to achieve this milestone without science. Today's meeting will provide an opportunity to comprehensively discuss our proposals on the draft law "On Science and Technology Policy", - said Aidos Sarym.

In turn, Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education of RK Darhan Ahmed-Zaki presented the bill "On Science and Technology Policy", developed on behalf of the President.

The first is to improve the structure of the science management system. The second is to expand the functions of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Third - strengthening the functions of the scientific fund. Fourth - introduction of the mechanism for the collection, processing and analysis of scientific and technical information, the creation of a center for it in the future. Fifth - expansion of the package of social support of scientific workers, including young scientists. These proposals have been discussed and sent to the Majilis by a group of more than 200 scientists since January 2023," said the Vice-Minister.

At the meeting of the Public Chamber spoke: a member of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Tansaule Serikov, vice-rector for science, commercialization and internationalization of the Eurasian National University named after L. N. Gumilev Zhanna Kurmangalieva, analyst Yerlan Smailov, public figure, environmentalist Aizhan Skakova, Professor Muslim Hasenov.

In their speeches, participants discussed issues not covered by the draft law and expressed their opinions.
