Hackathon Digital Farabi 2024 competitions were held in KazNU

The Digital Farabi 2024 Hackathon Digital Farabi competition was held at the Faculty of Information Technologies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Hackathon Digital Farabi 2024 is an exciting way to engage students and young professionals in a culture of digital change. The main goal is to create a software model of the tasks at hand and develop ideas of digital technologies, as well as to help young professionals realise their ideas.

Twenty-eight teams from the country's leading universities took part in the competition. They performed tasks on the following cases: "Development of a system for monitoring and notification of data compromise from the Internet" (IT-company MSSP Global), "Improvement of internal grading system in IT-company" (IT-company ONE technologies), "Development of an intelligent question-and-answer system for processing text data of Kazakh language", "Creation of a model for classification of steganography methods using deep neural networks" (IT-company Torus), "Development of a method for analysing, classifying and monitoring network data" (IT company Torus), "Development of models for detecting cyber extremism in social networks and messengers" (IT company Torus), "Development of a mobile application based on Android OS for file encryption using lightweight encryption algorithm LBC" (IS Laboratory of IS IIWT KN MNVO RK).

More than 28 interesting projects were developed. After the teams defended their projects, the qualified jury evaluated the results according to the following criteria: project idea, novelty, compliance with the theme, user and data security, usability, interface and convenience, functionality, presentation defence, etc.

As a result, the following teams of Al-Farabi KazNU became the winners: "Open Source", "Universe", "VISSI", "DoRest", "Jupiter and Team", "Winner", "IT jigits", as well as the team of K.Satpayev KazNITU "JAKO".

In addition to prizes for students and young professionals, other participants were awarded special prizes at the expense of sponsors.

At the end of the event, qualified IT specialists shared their experience, and participants were able to ask questions and discuss ideas for the development of science in IT and cybersecurity.

The Hackathon competition sharpens the knowledge of young inventors and increases the innovative abilities of young people. The organisers intend to hold similar competitions on a regular basis in the future.
