Unity of the nation and the role of the intelligentsia

On March 15, 2024, at the National Kurultai, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, expressed his deep conviction in the need to strengthen the unity of the Kazakh people. In his speech, the head of state noted the special responsibility for this critical matter placed on the intelligentsia.

“Solidarity and harmony among respected and famous personalities of our society play a paramount role in strengthening the nation’s unity and the proper education of youth,” Tokayev emphasized. He called on intellectuals to actively participate in discussing and supporting topics that contribute to the unification of the people and the country’s development.

The President also drew attention to the negative consequences of inciting discussions about events and personalities of the past. “Empty polemics that only divide society are of no use. It is important to remember that each era has its characteristics, and all historical figures served their people according to their convictions,” he noted.

The President concluded that it is necessary to abandon the opposition of different historical figures and periods since this is part of the general history of the people, reflecting its path and development.
