Megagrant is being utilized in three years

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University received a megagrant from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Al-Farabi received a megagrant from the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the competition of scientific and scientific-technical programs for 2023-2025. The volume of the grant is 4 billion tenge.

The program is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is designed to address strategically important challenges in the West Kazakhstan region. The project will be implemented within three years. At this stage, scientists should find ways to solve problems of sustainable environmental, socio-economic development of the region, conservation and management of the environment, water resources, fauna and flora. Also, the project participants should analyze the composition and quality of soils and determine the degree of wear and tear of the soil cover caused by anthropogenic disturbances, shoaling of water bodies, air pollution with oil products and toxic chemicals.

According to the head of the scientific project, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Maulken Askarova, the program is very extensive. Studies will be conducted in Mangistau, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan and Aktobe regions. "As a result of ongoing economic activities in the region, studies are planned to identify the presence of erosion processes, pasture depression and desertification problems.
