Sustainable consumption and production in the context of data sciences

At the curated hour, organized for third-year students of the Data Science specialty, an in-depth discussion was held about Sustainable Development Goal No. 12: responsible consumption and production. Under the guidance of the curator, Laura Serikovna Duisembayeva, students understood the essence and significance of this goal, and also discussed how data and analytics can contribute to achieving sustainable consumption and production.

The goal of sustainable consumption and production, formulated as “Doing more and achieving more with less”, became the main topic of discussion. Students analyzed this goal in terms of their data science knowledge and skills and discussed practical ways to achieve it.

During the discussion the following questions were raised:

Manufacturing Optimization: What data analytics techniques can help optimize manufacturing processes, reduce costs, and minimize waste?

Environmental aspects of production: What data can be used to monitor and manage environmental aspects of production, such as emissions and energy consumption?

Corporate Social Responsibility: How can data help assess and monitor corporate social responsibility, including working conditions and impact on local communities?

Conscious Consumption: How can consumer behavior data help spread the word about sustainable alternatives and encourage conscious consumption?
