Round table "Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development Goals: Economic, Environmental and Social Transformation".

On April 16, 2024, students of the 2nd year of the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi KazNU held a round table on "Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development Goals: Transformation of Economy, Ecology and Society". This round table focused on the interaction of artificial intelligence (AI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN. The students discussed how AI could serve as a tool to achieve SDGs in different areas, as well as the challenges posed by this interaction and how to overcome them. The main areas of discussion were:

How AI can stimulate innovation, increase productivity and efficiency, create jobs and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Consideration of AI applications for climate change, natural resource management, clean environment and reduced environmental footprint.  Assessment of the impact of AI on the labour market, social equity, access to education and health, and protection of personal data and human rights.  Discussion of ethical dilemmas and moral aspects of the use of AI in the context of sustainable development, including autonomous decision-making systems, combating discrimination and protecting privacy.  How governments, business and civil society can work together to create an enabling environment for the development and application of AI that contributes to the achievement of SDGs and takes into account the interests of all parties. 

The purpose of the round table is to bring together various stakeholders to develop practical recommendations and strategies for using artificial intelligence in support of sustainable development, as well as to discuss ways to manage potential risks and challenges, related process.
