Master's Students Spearhead Innovative Event on Sustainable Development

SDG-12. Almaty, April 17 — al-Farabi Kazakh National University's classroom 219 became the stage for a pioneering event titled "Nomad’s Footprint in Today's Sustainability: Ecology, Innovation, and Tourism." Event was organized by three master's students from the fields of State and Local Administration and Innovation Management. Master students from China, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, under the guidence of supervisor Turebekova B.O. hold the event where expertssuccessfully gathered and undergraduates to delve into sustainable practices.

Held on April 17 at 1 PM, the event seamlessly combined physical and virtual environments, utilizing Zoom to involve international experts from various sectors in Vietnam and China. It focused on sustainable development goals and shared the unique ecological innovations and cultural footprints of Kazakhstan, China, and Azerbaijan. Tran Huyen My, a seasoned professional from Vietnam's tourism sector, shared insights into innovative practices in eco-tourism. Maerhaba Reyza, a lawyer involved in China's Belt and Road Initiative, discussed legal approaches to advancing sustainable development.

The highlight of the event was a lively debate competition where participants were split into three groups representing Green Technology, Government, and Community. The discussion revolved around who contributes the most to sustainable development, leading to an engaging and educational debate.

Following the debate, participants embarked on a virtual reality tour, experiencing the splendors of Beijing’s Forbidden City, Astana’s EXPO, and Baku (Azerbaijan). The event concluded with a dessert sharing session, where participants reflected on their roles in promoting sustainable tourism and innovation.

The event not only provided a platform for learning and discussion but also inspired greater environmental consciousness among attendees. It was a resounding success, thanks to the innovative approach and the meticulous organization by the master’s students. Attendees left with memorable gifts, including panda souvenirs from China and exquisite travel books about Almaty.
