Farabi Film Festival was held in KazNU
Al-Farabi KazNU hosted the Farabi Film Festival for students of film and media departments of the Turkic world.
The event was organized jointly by the international organization TURKSOY and the Centre for Commercialization of Technologies and Creative Industries of the University.
Students, teachers and cinematographers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan took part in the film festival organized within the framework of the 90th anniversary of KazNU.
The purpose of the festival is to support young cinematographers and create conditions for their further professional growth in this field, popularization of student creativity, promotion of friendship between Turkic peoples, enriching the spiritual world, expanding the worldview of generations.
At the opening ceremony the participants and guests were welcomed by the member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activity Zhamila Aitzhanova. "Today is a special day for us, because as witnesses of a historical event we met for the first time at the Student Film Festival of Turkic countries," she emphasized. - This important and significant event will undoubtedly contribute to the exchange of students' experience in the art of cinematography, strengthening cultural ties".
Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY Yusuf Sayed, Vice-President for Production of the National Film Studio "Kazakhfilm" named after Sh. Aimanov Aidar Omarov, director Murat Yeszhan and others also congratulated the participants of the festival.
The program presents about 70 pictures of students studying at the faculties of cinema and art of Turkic-speaking countries in the genres of ethnographic documentary film, film essay, film observation, portrait (documentary biopic), experimental film, documentary animation.
Within the framework of the event, the Farabi Film Festival winners were awarded with prizes and diplomas of TURKSOY and Al-Farabi KazNU.
Saadat Kazakbaeva, a student of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, received the Grand Prix of KazNU for the movie "The Bell at Twilight".
"I worked on the script for a long time. I really wanted my movie to be not just a story about love, but also about how important it is to overcome loneliness. The result is a story that, you could say, reflects the fates of many lonely people. By uniting, they were able to find hope and meaning in life. I am happy that the judges appreciated my work so highly," the winner of the festival shared her emotions.
Iskandermukhamed Annamukhamedov, the head-director of students of the Film Department of Turkmenistan, received the Grand Prix of TURKSOY for the movie "Sounds of Dutar". Among the nominees of the festival were winners from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Films of students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Dias Yusuf "Boyau", Adnan Al-Khattab "Hasib Untold Story", Olzhas Pavlik "KazNU: the abode of history and knowledge" were recognized as original.
In 2021 KazNU opened an educational program "Film & Media", which prepares in-demand personnel in the field of film and media, capable of creating creative skills and competitive products.
We hope that this initiative will be continued in the coming years and will become the first step in the art of talented actors, screenwriters and young directors.
