In Al-Farabi KazNU within the framework of the international project organized jointly with the XCSS Association, a scientific and practical conference "Climate does not wait" was held.
The event was opened by a member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Zhamila Aitzhanova. Emphasizing the relevance of the theme of the conference, she reminded that the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the World Climate Summit, supported the call of the UN to take concrete actions aimed at preserving the environment for future generations, and emphasized that Kazakhstan was the first country in the region to ratify the Paris Agreement and adopted a strategy of carbon neutrality until 2060.
"In the status of a research university, scientists of Al-Farabi KazNU carry out active activities to search for and implement new innovative breakthrough scientific research in the context of adaptation to climate change," noted the Vice-Rector. - This is especially noted in the activities of the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Rational Use of Natural Resources, where scientific research is conducted in 10 innovative laboratories in the study of patterns of interaction between nature and society in the context of global environmental change, including the development and implementation of green technologies for the rational use of natural resources for the sustainable development of Kazakhstan".
Fabrizio Neve, Consul General of France in Almaty, made a welcoming speech, thanking the leadership of Al-Farabi KazNU and the conference organizers for supporting the project, which is part of the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration.
"The year 2024 is a symbolic year for France and Kazakhstan in the field of sports and water resources: the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, the V World Nomad Games in Astana, as well as the launch of the two countries international water summit "One Water Summit", which will be held in September 2024", - said the consul.
The meeting was also addressed by: Ambassador of Friendship of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in France Malgorzata Touar, President of the Association XCSS - CROSS COUNTRY SKIING SAND Estelle Payen and others.
The conference participants discussed topical issues of climate change, sustainable development, environmental education, ecotourism and others.
In the framework of the conference, a memorandum on mutual cooperation between the NAO "Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi" and PF "Fund for Support of National Parks of Kazakhstan" was signed.
