A modern cluster “Farabi Chem Science” was opened in KazNU
A modern Farabi Chem Science cluster has opened at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The new scientific facility, which is located at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, includes 9 laboratories.
The purpose of the cluster is to identify and analyze environmental pollutants, develop new materials for chemical current sources, conduct in-depth research in the field of petrochemistry, and develop optimal methods for obtaining domestic biomedical agents and antibacterial protective coatings.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, Professor of Harvard University, expert scientist Mark Elliot, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebaev, scientists, young researchers and teachers of the university.
Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies Alina Galeeva informed the honored guests in detail about the work and directions of the new laboratories.
During the event Sayasat Nurbek noted that President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev pays special attention to the development of domestic science and education and introduction of innovative approaches.
“Yesterday at a meeting with young scientists in Almaty, the President said: “We need to become one of the leading countries, not a slave country. In a word, we should increase our scientific potential”. Laboratories, which are being opened today on the basis of KazNU, are necessary for the development of chemical industry of the country and deepening of work in the field of chemical industry", - Sayasat Nurbek said.
In turn, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebaev noted that the laboratories will be able to solve urgent problems in the field of medicine and biology.
These scientific laboratories provide a wide range of opportunities for creating refractory coatings for metal and wooden structures, studying new types of inorganic materials with special properties, performing services for quantitative and qualitative analysis of substances and materials. Favorable conditions for free activity of scientists are created here, and the laboratories are equipped with the latest constructions and apparatuses.
It should be noted that the chemical scientific cluster includes: laboratory of analytical chemistry and environment, laboratory of electrochemical production technologies, laboratory of petrochemistry, chemical-medical laboratory, laboratory of fine organic synthesis, laboratory of energy-intensive nanomaterials, laboratory of advanced materials and technologies, laboratory of high-precision diagnostics of materials and research and production center Chemical Coatings Innovations.
The cost of purchased new devices and apparatuses is 1 billion tenge.
