The Minister got acquainted with the collection of rare books and manuscripts of the Al-Farabi Library
Kazakhstan, Almaty – June 1, 2024 – As part of a working trip to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, together with Harvard University professor and expert scientist Mark Elliot, got acquainted with the activities of the fund of rare books and manuscripts in the Al-Farabi library.
During the visit, the director of the Scientific Research Center “Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage”, Professor Z. Shadkam, gave a detailed tour for the distinguished guests. Professor Shadkam introduced the Minister and Professor Elliot to the unique manuscripts stored in the library's collection of rare publications and manuscripts, focusing on the significance and richness of the cultural heritage presented.
Minister Sayasat Nurbek highly appreciated the work of the Scientific Research Center “ Written Monuments and Spiritual Heritage” and emphasized the importance of supporting and developing such initiatives aimed at preserving the national heritage and its popularization in the international arena.
Professor Mark Elliott expressed admiration for what he saw and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the field of preservation and study of historical manuscripts and rare books. "Collections like this play a key role in understanding world history and culture. I am impressed by the work being done here at Al Farabi Library under the leadership of Z. Shadkam and her team," said Professor Elliott.
