Discussion of the problems of soil pollution in the Mangystau region

On June 10, 2024, a working meeting was held between scientists of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, performers of the megagrant of subgroup No. 4, with the participation of the leadership of the akimat of Mangystau region - Deputy regional akim K. J. Kulzhanov and representatives of the environmental department - A. Zhusipkaliev, K. Tashimov - agricultural management, A. Mendigeerev - regional phytosanitary inspection. The head of the megagrant of subgroup No. 4 Bazarbaeva T. A. She reported on the main tasks for the implementation of the megagrant "Sustainable development of natural, economic and socio-economic systems of the West Kazakhstan region in the context of green growth; comprehensive analysis, concept, forecast estimates and scenarios", which include an assessment of the current state of soil pollution with toxic chemicals with the creation of a series of information and assessment maps.

B.E. Shimshikov, Professor of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development, spoke about the current situation of soil pollution with chemical toxic substances. On the issues of detecting concentrations of toxic chemicals in the West Kazakhstan region, candidate of biological sciences - Z.A. Tukenova and G.A. Mukanova, a foreign participant of the megagrant, Doctor of Agrarian Sciences, Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan M.Mustafayev stressed on the need for analysis of soil samples from contaminated sites in the studied region.

The head of the Department of Agricultural Management K. Tashimov reported that work is underway in the Mangystau region to identify the main sources of pollution within the framework of the innovative projects program. It was stressed that this issue under discussion is very relevant and they are ready to consider other proposals for the conservation and restoration of soil cover in the face of climate change. The participants discussed issues of further cooperation.
