KazNU scientists undergo training in Finland
Scientists of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi are undergoing scientific training at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI, Finland).
KazNU specialists are trained under the programme ‘Sustainable development of natural-economic and socio-economic systems of the West Kazakhstan region in the context of green growth: comprehensive analysis, concept, forecast assessments and scenarios’. The project is aimed at the implementation of the National Development Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2029 (item ‘Improving environmental sustainability and air quality’).
Together with colleagues from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, employees of Al-Farabi KazNU discussed mechanisms of carbon neutrality, as well as control of emissions and emission of pollutants into the atmosphere.
The parties exchanged information about their scientific research and shared their experiences. The colleagues from FMI demonstrated the scientific infrastructure, which includes: an air quality analysis laboratory, a weather forecast office, and an alternative energy system that is used to power the entire Finnish weather service.
The following days of the internship will be devoted to the issues of the atmospheric air quality monitoring system with the construction of background stations. Scientists will also study models of analysis and forecast of atmospheric air quality, consequences of climate change in the world, verification of modelling results and other areas of joint scientific research and projects.
