Discussed plans for the new academic year
The results of the last academic year, new plans and the concept of science development at the university for 2024-2028 were discussed at the Academic Council at Al-Farabi KazNU.
On the results of 2023/24 academic year reported a member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Altay Kazmagambetov, presenting the results of the work done, plans and priority areas of work for the new 2024/25 academic year.
Last year Al-Farabi KazNU implemented 539 educational programmes (EP), this year their number increased to 548. 65 per cent of EPs are at the postgraduate level, which is in line with the strategy of the research university. So far, 507 OPs have been renewed, of which bachelor's degree - 132, master's degree - 236, residency - 5, doctoral degree - 134. And also 80 new OPs have been included in the register of educational programmes. The speaker also noted the works on the introduction of artificial intelligence in the educational process: the rules of using AI are reflected in all documents regulating the educational process (academic policy, rules of final control, etc.). ‘In the current academic year, we are facing the task of obtaining a licence for online learning, a roadmap for the implementation of OPs in the form of online learning has been developed,’ the Vice-Rector noted.
The report also presented plans for the development of digitalisation of the educational process: the recognition of formal and non-formal education training, professional qualification, introduction of interactive silabus, as well as developing MOOCs for educational programmes that will be selected for online learning, etc. are being implemented. A significant event in the life of the university is the signing of an agreement on the establishment and operation of a branch of KazNU on the basis of Omsk State University named after F.M.Dostoevsky. The start of the branch is planned for September 2025. A new speciality ‘Cryptology’ was opened at the university. From academic achievements Altay Gabdrakhmanovich especially noted that 112 students of KazNU will receive a presidential scholarship.
Member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Work Zhamilya Aitzhanova informed about the results of research work of the university. Scientists of KazNU carry out 400 research projects (2022-2026). The total amount of funding was more than 34 billion tg. This is a great achievement, the best result for Kazakhstan to date. Academician M. Burkitbayev won the competition on commercialisation of 200 million tg. The presentation also presented the directions of scientific projects, including advanced manufacturing, digital and space technologies, energy, advanced materials and transport, sustainable development of agro-industrial complex, etc. The speaker also highlighted the issues of training and certification of scientific personnel and various innovations in the field of research activities, such as: digitisation of laboratories (E-Labs) according to the order of the MoEHE and a new form of scientific and technical assignment under the PCF.
Sabit Suatai, Member of the Board - Acting Vice-Rector for Social Development, made a report on the results of social and educational work and provision of dormitories for students. Director of the Department of Science and Innovation Activity Margulan Ibraimov presented the ‘Concept of Science Development for 2024-2028’. Acting Deputy Chairman of the Board - First Vice-Rector Erkin Duisenov presented a comprehensive work plan of ‘Al-Farabi KazNU’ for 2024/25 academic year.
After discussing the reports, the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebaev congratulated the staff on the beginning of the new academic year. ‘Science is a priority in the activity of the leading higher education institution of the country. At the same time, the most important thing is the effect of the implemented scientific projects, what problems of society they help to solve. Young scientists carry great potential, and they should actively participate in projects. We should strive for leadership in science,’ the rector noted.
