The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology held a seminar on the commercialization of scientific developments to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2
The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology successfully concluded a seminar dedicated to the commercialization of scientific achievements with the aim of ensuring sustainable agriculture and food security. The event focused on implementing biotechnological developments in practical areas in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) – Zero Hunger, ensuring food security, and improving nutrition.
The seminar featured key projects, such as: “Optimization of cultivation and automation of dual-use perennial wheat production” (Project leader – Kurmanbayeva M.S.), “Biotechnological production of polysaccharide-based phytopreparations to enhance crop yield and resilience to health and stress conditions” (Project leader – Bishimbayeva N.K.), and “Development of food products based on combined milk with microencapsulated probiotics” (Project leader – Kistaubayeva A.S.).
The main topics covered during the seminar were:
- The contribution of science to achieving SDG 2. Participants were introduced to successful biotechnological solutions, such as innovative phytopreparations and food products, methods for increasing crop yield and resilience, as well as improving the quality of nutrition.
- Commercialization of biotechnological research for impact on agriculture. The discussion focused on ways to apply the scientific achievements of the faculty to address issues of food security and the development of the agricultural sector.
- Grant funding for commercialization projects. Commercialization experts, including Azatuly T., Director of the Center for Commercialization and Creative Industries, project manager of the commercialization department Kankseitova Zh., and head of the commercialization department Malik A., provided participants with information on grant opportunities for implementing innovative projects in the agro-industrial and food sectors.
- Practical steps for implementing commercial projects. Specific recommendations were given on conducting scientific research aimed at commercialization, targeting the improvement of agricultural crop resilience and the creation of food products.
This event was a crucial step towards advancing the faculty’s high-tech efforts, which will contribute to the development of science as well as the sustainable development of agriculture and food systems. Faculty members and researchers gained valuable insights into the possibilities of commercializing their scientific developments and their elevation within priority economic sectors. Strategies for collaboration with agro-industrial and food enterprises were discussed, enabling the adoption of innovative solutions. Participants also held discussions on the process of preparing and submitting grant applications for the commercialization of their projects.
The seminar highlighted the essential role of science in addressing challenges such as food security and incorporating practical tools for commercializing scientific achievements.
Organizers: The faculty’s responsible actions for commercialization and advancing SDG goals were led by Ultanbekova G.D. and Mukhatayeva K.A.
