Collect Plastic!

5 october, 2024

Under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation), on October 5, 2024, the university held a university-wide cleanup day to clean the territory and inside the university buildings of the campus. Teachers and students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology attended the cleanup day.

The goal of the cleanup day is to develop students' desire for a healthy lifestyle and cleanliness.

As part of the cleanup day with the slogan "Collect Plastic!" much attention was paid to collecting plastic containers separately from other garbage on campus. It is known that the substance bisphenol A, which has been used for many years as a hardener in plastic products, affects normal hormonal regulation processes. It is contained in all plastic containers used today in the food industry: plastic bottles for water and drinks, food containers, etc. Even small concentrations of bisphenol A lead to negative consequences. Pollution from plastic products causes great harm to the environment.

Thus, cleaning the area from plastic helps maintain cleanliness and increases responsibility for the environment.
