Kazakhstan’s transition to a “green economy” and “green technologies”
The government of Kazakhstan has identified directions for the development of biotechnology, one of which is the use of “green technologies” in the oil-producing regions of the country. Currently, areas contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons have turned into so-called “hot spots” that pose a high environmental hazard to the environment and humans. Phyto and bioremediation are considered as an alternative to physical or chemical methods for removing xenobiotics from soils. The advantage is both a gentle impact on the environment and the possibility of targeted use. In this regard, we believe that the development of such scientific projects is important, both on a national and international scale, and is of great importance for improving the environmental situation in the country as a whole, according to the “Strategic Development Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2025,” Objective 7. “Green economy and environmental protection” (Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 12, 2021 No. 731). "Green technologies" are considered environmentally friendly. "Green" technologies have the following goal: preserving biodiversity and preserving the earth's resources (GSD 15 «Life on Land»).
As part of this GSD 15 «Life on Land», a number of issues were discussed with students majoring in Biotechnology: Kazakhstan’s transition to “green” technologies and a “green” economy, which will not only preserve natural capital and the ecosystem, but also reduce economic costs from the irrational use of natural resources.
