Seminar on capacity building in the context of the SDGs, organized in collaboration with al-Farabi Kazakh National University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

On October 9, 2024, the sociology and social work department hosted a scientific seminar organized in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The event focused on capacity building for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and covered a wide range of topics related to migration and poverty in a global context. A series of relevant presentations were delivered during the seminar. Professor of Global History from an Anthropological Perspective, Pál Nyiri from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, spoke on the topic "Chinese migration in the Post-Soviet space," examining Hungarian cases as well as those related to Central Asia, highlighting the importance of migration processes and their impact on the socio-economic development of these regions. Natalia Ryzhova, Doctor of Economic Sciences, leading researcher, and associate professor at the Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic), discussed issues of "Illegality" in migration and migration policy in Russia, analyzing the legal aspects and policies regulating migration flows in the Russian Federation, as well as their consequences for migrants from Central Asia. Akmadi Moldir, PhD, presented a report on "Representation of internal migration and migrants in the Kazakhstani media discourse," in which she analyzed the representation of internal migration and migrants in Kazakhstan's media discourse, as well as the stereotypes and perceptions formed in public consciousness through mass media. The scientific seminar served as a platform for knowledge and experience exchange, fostering inter-university cooperation and deepening scholarly discussions on important social issues related to migration and poverty in the modern world.
