Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems

Currently, sustainable development goals are increasingly being discussed in the country, and their importance is being discussed in society. Sustainable development has 17 goals. Its 15th goal is "Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems". Protecting the ecosystem and restoring it is a big problem. Considerable efforts are being made within the framework of these Sustainable Development Goals. On October 21, 2024, E. R. Uzenbek, a lecturer at the Department of History of Kazakhstan, Faculty of History of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, held an event "Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems" with students of the specialty "History". The purpose of this event was to inform students about actions that can be taken to protect the environment and combat climate change.

During the event, the teacher E.R. Uzenbek noted in his speech that it is necessary to make public efforts to promote the proper use of the environment, optimal forest management, combating desertification, stopping and reversing the process of land degradation, stopping the process of loss of biological diversity, this is environmental purification from waste, waste recycling, recycling of materials that do not decompose in the soil in a word, reducing or cessation of consumption of created objects, explaining the need to reduce or completely eliminate the influence of all anthropogenic factors, preventing the existence of humanity and fauna and the environment, he explained that the maintenance of the surrounding nature and the delivery of each person to special places for processing harmful waste, without throwing them away, is also a contribution to the implementation of this law.

In addition, during the event, students were provided with information about the chemical composition and properties of plastic containers, their harm to the environment and human health. It was said that plastic containers and various products do not decompose in the soil, but fill the earth's surface with solid waste, which leads to soil erosion, which is a great disaster for the ecosystem.  Therefore, it was explained to the students that it is necessary to reduce the number of plastic objects and, with each consumption, think consciously and replace plastic containers with vessels made of another material.

The students showed great interest in the topic, asked questions, expressed their thoughts and exchanged opinions. Concrete steps were proposed, such as protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainable forest management, combating desertification, halting and returning land degradation and halting biodiversity loss, reducing water and energy consumption, waste disposal and promoting sustainable resource use. Many students expressed a desire to participate in projects related to environmental protection in the future.
