Training camps for students of the Military Department
In accordance with the order of the First Deputy Minister of Defence - Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General Kamaletdinov ‘On conducting training camps (professional practice) of students of military departments at institutions of higher and postgraduate education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2024’ and the Programmes of training officers and sergeants of the reserve, at the military department of Al-Farabi KazNU held a training camp with students who have completed a full course of study at the military department.
Under the control and in close cooperation with the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, practical training sessions were held using the training and material base of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Military Institute of the Army and the Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The management of KazNU provides comprehensive material, technical and methodical assistance in the quality organisation of educational process at the training camps of students. During the period, from 10 to 19 July in the training centre of the Military Institute of Ground Forces named after the first Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, hero of the Soviet Union, Halyk Kaharmany, General of the Army Nurmagambetov S.K., students performed exercises of training shooting from AK-74 rifle and Makarov pistol. July 17, 2024, students studying on military specialties of reserve officers of the Army Air Defence Forces, performed live firing on the task ‘Shooting platoon with a direct aiming sight at armoured personnel carriers from a short stop.’ Combat firing from ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns was carried out in strict accordance with the ‘Course of fire of formations, military units and units of the Army Air Defence Forces’.
It should be noted that this year a field camp with all the necessary infrastructure was set up for students at the training centre of the Army Military Institute. In the tent city, where our training units were comfortably accommodated, an internal service was organised in accordance with statutory requirements. According to the daily schedule, all the activities were carried out from the morning rise and exercise to the evening turn-in and disembarkation. Separately I would like to dwell on the organisation of meals for students of the training camp. In the canteen of the battalion supply range, according to the norms of allowance for the cadets cooked quality food. Cleanliness and order in the canteen, general organisation and attentiveness of the staff caused great appreciation of the cadets.
Safety and fire drills were organised prior to the firing drills. Full-fledged classes on tactical, military engineering and military medical training were held at the range's tactical campuses, where students learnt the military science of winning in the field! The programme of educational work was rich. The deputy commanders of companies and batteries on educational and ideological work held military-historical quizzes, daily agitators of platoons informed the personnel, issued lightning and combat leaflets. The stands of the field room of information and educational work were colourfully decorated. With great interest students participated in the final show of amateur art of the units, to which were invited conscripts of the battalion to support the educational process.
After arriving from the training range, students trained as commanders of motorised rifle and reconnaissance units practically practised the issues of defence, offensive and combat support during tactical and firearms training. Future anti-aircraft gunners performed norms on search, detection and destruction of air targets. Under the guidance of experienced teachers, veterans of air defence forces, they learnt to deploy and roll up training and combat equipment, to take starting and firing positions to repel enemy air strikes.
On the instructions of the head of the military department, Colonel O. Azhimov, in order to qualitatively work out practical issues on tactical and specialised training, a tactical training field was created on the territory of the military department, which includes elements of a motorised rifle platoon's stronghold, trenches of anti-aircraft gunners, meteorological and topographical towns. Future military meteorologists were given practical training at the meteorological site of the University's Faculty of Geography and Nature Management. Students, future military communicators, familiarised themselves with the communications equipment of the Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications.
An integrated approach to the organisation of classes using the training and material base of the university, the Military Institute of the Army, Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan allows to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of students studying in various military specialties.
With future military lawyers, military speciality ‘Legal Counseling’, in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation between the military department and the Office of Military Police of Almaty garrison, in the Office of Military Police conducted practical and demonstration classes. The first lesson was held by the deputy head of the Department of educational and ideological work Lieutenant Colonel Marat Imanbekov, who told about the history of the establishment of the military police of the army of Kazakhstan, their tasks in modern conditions. In the Department of Military Police were held classes on the organisation of road safety, patrol service and its peculiarities, guard duty and the work of military interrogators. Students familiarised themselves with the functioning of the garrison brig. In the military prosecutor's office and military court of Almaty garrison future military lawyers got acquainted with the organisation of prosecutor's supervision and control. For them, the leadership of the military prosecutor's office and the military court of the garrison gave lectures on the history and modern activities of the military prosecutor's office and the military court of our country.
Future military psychologists in the military police department of the Almaty regional garrison conducted a sociological survey of conscripts ‘advantages of the army in the life of a soldier’, in which the main aspect was to identify the advantages of service in the life of soldiers and to identify general trends and views of society on this issue, the impact of the army on the personal development of the soldier. Students, future officers of educational structures training camp was held in the Almaty branch of the National Military-Patriotic Centre of the Armed Forces and the branch of the Military History Museum of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. Students were divided into groups depending on their qualifications. A separate group of students created QR codes to make visitors and guests of the museum more fully familiarise themselves with the exhibits of the museum, our students created new layouts and designed stands and exposition materials. Students also worked with archival materials and helped to restore and describe historical documents.
An extensive programme of military-patriotic, cultural and leisure activities was held at the training camp. These are military-technical quizzes, debate tournaments, excursions to memorable places of Almaty, psychological trainings and other agitation and mass and cultural-leisure activities. Actives of training units on a scheduled basis participated in the daily briefing of personnel and summarising the results of the combat competition between training platoons. The work of editors of the platoons' combat leaflets and editorial boards of wall photo newspapers of the units aroused great interest among the students.
At the end of the training camp final examinations were held, during which most of the students showed solid knowledge of the main disciplines of training. After the final examinations, the students took the military oath of allegiance to the Motherland in a solemn atmosphere. All conducted training and educational activities were aimed at quality training of officers and sergeants of the reserve, trained in military speciality and true patriots of Kazakhstan!
