The first International scientific and practical conference "Digital Reality: New Challenges in Cartography, GIS and Remote Sensing", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the University, is being held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The event is attended by prominent scientists and experts of the region, teachers, professors, university students.

The scientific forum was organized by the Center for Space Technologies and Remote Sensing of the Earth Cluster of Engineering and High Technologies, the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the ESRI distributor in the CIS countries, Data+ International.

The event was opened by the moderator of the plenary session, General Director of the Cluster of Engineering and High–tech Technologies Amirkhan Temirbayev, noting the relevance of the conference topic and thanking the sponsors, Leica Geosystems Kazakhstan and Geokurs for their help in organizing the forum.

Altai Kazmagambetov, Member of the Board and Vice–Rector for Academic Affairs, noted: "KazNU has been training personnel in the geographical field for more than 80 years. The Center for Space Technology and Remote Sensing of the Earth is actively developing scientific programs in the field of cartography, GIS technology (geoinformation systems) and remote sensing (remote sensing of the Earth)",- said the Vice–rector. "Our university is the first university in the CIS to sign a memorandum of cooperation with Data+ International. I am confident that this conference will become a platform for discussing current issues, trends and innovations in the field of cartography, geoinformation systems and remote sensing of the Earth".

Samuel Mukasa, Vice President and Vice-rector of the State University of New York, professor at the College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry, presented a report on "Cartography in the age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Opportunities," revealing the role of AI in cartography, which opens up great opportunities as a tool for processing big data.

Evgeny Levin, a professor at the School of Applied and Computational Sciences at Meharry Medical College in the United States, devoted his report to demystifying AI, which aims to make information more accessible and understandable by eliminating unnecessary complexities and myths.

Richard Budden, Deputy General Director of Esri for the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia, Valery Fomin, Director of Business Development at Data+International, Alpamys Aldash, Head of the State Control and Public Services Department of the Geodesy and Cartography Department of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Deputy Chairman of the Aerospace Committee of the ICRIAP of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Shulenbayev and others.
