SDG-4. MODERNIZATION AND INNOVATION IN BOOK PRINTING

On November 1, 2024 at the department of publishing, editing and design art of the faculty of journalism, Al-Farabi KazNU was organized a round table on the theme «Sustainable development goals: modernization and innovation in book printing» in cooperation with the cultural foundation named after Zeinolla Sanik. The event was timed to coincide with National Press Day.

The roundtable objectives were to:

- Promoting the significance of National Press Day;

- Discussion of issues and solutions in the field of printing;

- Evaluate the market's publishing industry's growth trajectory.

Dean of the faculty of journalism Kanat Auesbay, head of the department of publishing, editing and design art Aigul Ramazan, director of the «Zeinolla Sanik Cultural Foundation» Serik Kaliyev, director of the «Adebiyet» publishing house Galym Kalibekuly, founder of the «Zeinolla Sanik Cultural Foundation» Kanat Sanik, director of the «Ziyat» publishing house Asylan Tlegen, and professorial-teaching staff of the faculty of journalism attended the event and discussed current publishing issues.

In honor of the National Press Day, the event was opened by the Dean of the faculty Kanat Auesbay. In his speech, he emphasized that the purpose of celebrating the National Press Day is to raise the status of workers in the publishing industry, as well as the importance of remembering and recognizing the contribution of each person who contributed to the formation of the publishing industry. Galym Kalibekuly and Kanat Sanik noted that the famous writer, scientist, publisher Zeinolla Sanik made an invaluable contribution to the development of Kazakh spirituality, that his works are necessary for the preservation of the Kazakh identity for future generations, emphasizing that in the near future a monument to the publisher Zeinolla Sanik will be erected. At the roundtable, Asylan Tlegen, director of the «Ziyat» publishing house, gave speech in which he marked the requirements for the actualization of contemporary publishing.

On the last day of the publishers' week, the moderator of the roundtable, the head of the National center for journalistic studies Darmen Smaiyl highlighted the problems associated with the publishing industry. Head of the department Aigul Ramazan pointed out the importance of such events to attract young people to the publishing industry.

Everywhere in the world, reading books remains an eternal value. It is known that Kazakh books play a key role in promoting our national culture and spirituality. This meeting was aimed at discussing many unresolved issues in the publishing sphere and developing proposals for their solution. We are confident that such events will continue at the Kazakh National University, which educates talented and conscious publishers and editors.
