Enhancing the Quality of Scientific Articles at the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty
A practical seminar on the topic “Stages of Publishing an Article in Journals Indexed in the Scopus Database” was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was organized by the Department of Science and Innovation Activities. It brought together specialists and editors of scientific journals, including the head of the Science and Publications Management, Tastambek Kuanish, and representatives from the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty.
The seminar focused on the key stages of preparing and publishing scientific articles in journals indexed in the Scopus database, with a particular emphasis on the mechanics and mathematics field. A key topic discussed was the specific features that need to be considered when preparing articles to meet the high standards of international scientific publications. This is directly related to SDG 4: "Quality Education" from the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to improve the quality of education and learning in scientific and academic circles.
The speaker of the seminar, Dr. Zhexenbek Toktarbay, a renowned scientist and a member of the editorial boards of five Scopus-indexed journals published by Engineered Science Publisher, shared valuable recommendations on improving the quality of scientific publications and analyzed common mistakes made by authors that could reduce the chances of acceptance for publication. Toktarbay emphasized the importance of meeting editorial requirements and correctly formatting material to align with international standards, which also supports SDG 9: "Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure," fostering the development of scientific and technological innovations.
Special attention was given to participants from the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty, as the university already has several journals indexed in the Scopus database, including the “KazNU Bulletin. Series on Mathematics, Mechanics, and Informatics” and others. The role of these publications in the university’s scientific life and their contribution to improving publication quality was discussed. These efforts align with SDG 17: "Partnerships for the Goals," aimed at strengthening international partnerships in science and education.
Moreover, KazNU plans to expand its presence in the international scientific community by adding new journals to the Scopus database in 2025.
This seminar was an important step for the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty, providing participants the opportunity to enhance their publication skills and strengthen scientific ties with the global community, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals in education, innovation, and international cooperation.
