Photofixation of Historical Heritage and Establishment of a Museum Photolab: A Lecture by Ongarbek Alkharov
As part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 17 "Partnerships for the Goals," staff members of the Abish Kekilbayev Mangystau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore are undergoing scientific internships and professional development at the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology, and Museology of the Faculty of History at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. During the internship, at the Printmedia Technologies College, Ongarbek Alkharov, a senior lecturer at T. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, professional photographer, and photojournalist, delivered a lecture on "Methodology for Photofixation of Historical and Cultural Heritage Monuments and Exhibits, Formation of Museum Photo Archives, and Establishment of a Museum Photolab."
During the lecture, Ongarbek Alkharov explained the methods of properly photographing museum exhibits, emphasizing the importance of using special tools to reveal their historical significance. He elaborated on modern approaches to photofixation of historical and cultural heritage, the combination of light and shadow, and methods for maintaining composition. Additionally, topics such as archiving photographs, systematizing museum photo archives, and their use in scientific research were discussed. Museum staff received advice on selecting the necessary equipment for creating a museum photolab and organizing its operations.
This lecture provided museum workers with new knowledge aimed at improving their skills in photographing historical artifacts, ensuring their quality preservation, and utilizing them in research and promotional activities.
