Round table with students on the topic "The goals of religion in reducing poverty, inequality, and environmental risks"

On December 4.,2024 during celebration of the 90th anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a roundtable discussion was held with students on the topic of "Religious Goals in Reducing Poverty, Inequality, and Environmental Threats," in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. This important event was organized by the professors of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies: K.M. Borbasova, M.R. Baltymova, N.Zh. Baytenova, K.M. Bishmanov, and senior lecturer, PhD, Mukhan Nurzat, along with first-year doctoral students from the "Islamic Studies" and "Religious Studies" programs of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies.

The roundtable was held at the Auezov District Community Center. The event was actively attended by first- and second-year master's students from the "Social Pedagogy," "Religious Studies," and "Islamic Studies" programs at KazNU, as well as the residents of the center.

The speaker of the event, the head of the Youth Community Center,Makhambet Bauyrzhan discussed the important role of religions in addressing social and environmental issues in society. He emphasized the need to correctly harness the influence and power of religions in ensuring social justice, maintaining environmental sustainability, and fostering unity within communities. Furthermore, Mr. Bauyrzhan highlighted the significance of increasing the involvement of local communities and youth, as a way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the end of the event, participants exchanged views on the interconnection between sustainable development and the ethical values of religions. Important thoughts and suggestions were shared regarding the influence of religions in strengthening peace and cooperation among different groups in society. The event was aimed at a comprehensive discussion of issues related to religion, ecology, and social equality, as well as taking concrete actions in these areas.
