The best students were awarded POSCO scholarships

The solemn ceremony of awarding the POSCO scholarship, which was awarded to the best students of the university, took place at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The main purpose of the POSCO Scholarship program is to support Asian students studying in the fields of science, culture and education, including through scholarships, grants and financial assistance. The agreement between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the POSCO Foundation on awarding scholarships to university students was signed in 2007. Since then, the university has been actively participating in the POSCO program, providing its students with the opportunity to receive financial support for their studies.

In September 2024, 50 students from KazNU applied for the POSCO program, and 15 candidates were invited for interviews with the program's CEO in Kazakhstan, Byun Wook Park. As a result, 10 students from the faculties of International Relations, Oriental Studies, Philology, and the Higher School of Economics and Business were selected. They received one-time scholarships of 800 USD each.

The scholarship was presented and congratulated by the winners of the program by Deputy Chairman of the Board – Acting First Vice-Rector Yerkin Duysenov. He noted that the POSCO scholarship is not just financial support, but a sign of recognition of efforts, dedication and desire for knowledge. It symbolizes the pursuit of excellence, both in academic activities and in public life. "Dear scholarship recipients! You not only demonstrate high academic results, but also become ambassadors of our university, our traditions and culture. Your work and achievements are a contribution to the future, not only personal, but also to the development of friendship and mutual understanding between our countries", - Yerkin Ermanovich stressed, thanking POSCO for its support.

The winners of the program were also congratulated by Byun Wook Park, Director General of the POSCO program in Kazakhstan, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in order to train not only highly qualified specialists, but also active participants in the development of society, cultural and educational exchanges between the countries.
