Graduate and doctoral students of the Department of Mechanics took part in the scientific-academic seminar “KAZNAUKA” on the topic “Media Ethics and Scientific Journalism.” The seminar was delivered by Moldiyar Amangeldiyuly Yergebekov, a renowned journalist, host of the program “Sana” on the “Abai TV” channel, PhD holder, and Associate Professor at the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.

One of the key topics of the seminar was the popularization of science, its role in modern society, and its significance for sustainable development. The speaker emphasized that science plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, the development of innovative technologies, improving quality of life, and strengthening public health. However, for these achievements to become understandable and accessible to a wider audience, it is necessary to provide accurate and competent coverage of scientific topics in the media.

The popularization of science involves presenting complex scientific discoveries and ideas in simple and accessible language that can be understood by people without specialized education. This allows the broader public to recognize the importance of science and its impact on their daily lives. Through scientific journalism, people can better understand how modern technologies, research, and discoveries are transforming the world. The lecturer noted that journalists and scientists must work together to create high-quality content that not only informs but also inspires society to develop an interest in science.

A significant emphasis was placed on building public trust in scientific sources. In an era of widespread disinformation and fake news, scientific journalism becomes a tool to combat myths and manipulation. To achieve this, it is essential to uphold principles of objectivity, verify facts, and collaborate with experts.

The seminar also explored how effective science popularization stimulates interest in research activities among young people. The lecturer highlighted that science should not only solve problems but also inspire people to adopt creative and innovative approaches, laying the foundation for future discoveries. Examples of successful scientific communication from other countries, cited by the speaker, demonstrated how well-crafted information delivery can enhance the prestige of science in society.

This event is directly related to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It contributes to improving the professional skills of young scientists, aligning with SDG 4, “Quality Education.” Additionally, promoting science through journalism and ensuring ethical standards in media strengthens transparency and trust, supporting SDG 16, “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.” The seminar also fosters innovation and increases interest in science, supporting SDG 9, “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.”

The seminar served not only as an educational platform but also as a venue for discussing important issues related to the role of science in society. Participants highlighted the relevance of the topic and expressed their gratitude for the knowledge and practical advice they received, which will assist them in their scientific and professional endeavors.
