KAZNU AND SIEMENS ARE IMPLEMENTING A JOINT PROJECT

29 january, 2025

The Faculty of Information Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has signed an agreement with Cursor SRSS– an official partner of Siemens Industry Software (SIEMENS).

The collaboration between the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data of the Faculty of Information Technology and the company Cursor SRSS is aimed at implementing the ambitious program-targeted funding project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, titled "Development of a Digital Twin for Food Industry Enterprises Using Artificial Intelligence and IIoT Technologies". The project leader is Gulshat Amirhanova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data.

Under the agreement, work is underway to establish a center of excellence in applied industrial IT solutions. To operate the center, academic licenses for modern SIEMENS software products were acquired, including: Tecnomatix Manufacturing and Plant Simulation – for designing and managing production operations, modeling, and optimizing manufacturing processes; NX (CAD, CAM, CAE, all Add-ons) – a leading industrial CAD solution; Opcenter (APS, RD&I, EX CR, Execution and Intelligence, Quality) – a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), among others.

These software solutions provide unique opportunities for: digital design; modeling of manufacturing processes; engineering analysis; production management; quality control; and analysis of complex physical phenomena.

The software is being studied by undergraduate students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data who are participating in the project. In the future, the department plans to offer the advanced SIEMENS software to students and staff of the Mechanics and Mathematics, and Physics and Technology faculties, which will significantly expand the possibilities for interdisciplinary research.

Additionally, project participants are beginning training and certification with the international vendor on the Mendix platform (owned by SIEMENS) – a leading Low Code platform for creating, integrating, deploying, and managing modern business applications at any scale. Mendix allows for the creation of personalized, unique business solutions using digital flows and digital twins. In the future, the project team plans to train business representatives to work with SIEMENS solutions.

The project opens wide prospects for Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in preparing highly qualified specialists in the fields of: artificial intelligence, industrial automation, applied industrial software, and the development of industrial business applications. The use of cutting-edge SIEMENS technologies will allow the university to conduct world-class scientific research and create innovative solutions for industrial enterprises in Kazakhstan.
