The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, and 20 rectors of Kazakhstani universities got acquainted with the scientific potential of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The university leaders were met by KazNU Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev, and a tour of the new laboratories was organized.

The Kazakh-Chinese joint laboratory "Technology and Application of Remote Sensing" was first demonstrated, opened as part of the 90th anniversary of KazNU. Currently, scientists are conducting monitoring of environmental issues in the Central Asian region, such as water scarcity, drought, and land degradation caused by climate change. The laboratory also ensures environmental safety and sustainable development by warning about natural hazards in the region using remote monitoring.

Later, the university leaders were introduced to the activities of the Supercomputer Center based at KazNU. The high-tech device allows scientists across Kazakhstan to work with large data sets, model various government operations, and develop the country's IT infrastructure. The device, considered the most powerful in Central Asia, has a high performance of 1.94 PFLOPS. It is listed among the top 600 supercomputers in the world. The supercomputer enhances the efficiency and accuracy of scientific research, significantly expanding the university's capabilities in the field of computing technology.

The honored guests visited the country's first Center for Engineering Competence in Robotics and Robotization. The center features industrial robots from the German company "KUKA." It trains professionals working in the "Industry 4.0" system and implements goals for automation and digitalization of production. In the future, this center will become a hub for training qualified personnel for Kazakhstan's industry, bringing together science, education, and domestic industry.

The rectors were also shown the "Farabi Hub" Center for Innovative Products and High-Tech Projects, which was built as part of the 90th anniversary celebration of KazNU. The "Farabi Hub" spans 5,000 square meters. The hub implements projects in the fields of creative industries, artificial intelligence, and startup initiatives. It houses centers from companies such as ZTE, BASF, the Binlin Technology Corporation, and other international companies, as well as research institutes based at the university. The rectors were also introduced to innovative projects from the Brain Institute, the Scientific-Educational Center for "Robotics and Mechatronics RoboMech," the Research Institute of Biology and Biotechnology, the Forensic Examination Center, and the national open-access nanotechnology laboratories.

During the meeting, the university leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between domestic universities in the fields of science and higher education, enhance partnerships among scientists, exchange experiences, and implement joint scientific projects.
