On February 4, 2025, Jing Xianyu, a first-year doctoral student in the specialty "8D02305 – Foreign Philology," conducted a scientific seminar on "Study the Importance of Chinese Cultural Connotations." The event was attended by faculty members, master's students, and doctoral students from the Department of Chinese Studies, who engaged in an in-depth discussion on the topic. During the seminar, key aspects of Chinese culture as reflected in language, literature, and intercultural communication were examined. Special attention was given to the analysis of cultural connotations found in traditional Chinese idioms (成语), numerical and color symbolism, as well as mythological imagery. The speaker also addressed the challenges of translating and adapting Chinese cultural realities, emphasizing the complexity of conveying implicit meanings and figurative expressions in intercultural communication. Examples of complex idiomatic expressions and metaphors were presented, along with discussions on strategies for their interpretation depending on the context. Additionally, a discussion was held in which participants shared their views on how Chinese cultural characteristics influence the perception of Chinese literary works abroad. Modern trends in studying the Chinese language and culture in the context of globalization were explored, as well as the role of translation in disseminating Chinese artistic and philosophical thought.
The seminar generated strong interest among attendees, as reflected in the numerous questions and active discussions. Such events contribute to a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and enhance the intercultural competence of researchers in the fields of philology and translation.
