Curatorial Hour: SDG 13 – Climate Action and Japan's Climate System

27 february, 2025

On February 25, a tutorial session on "Japan's Climate System" was held for third-year students of the Japanese Studies Department at the Far East Faculty.

Japan's geographical location and natural features contribute to the diversity of its climate system. The regions spanning from the northern island of Hokkaido to the southern Ryukyu Islands are situated in various climate zones, which directly influence the lifestyle of the population, agriculture, and the country's economy.

During the tutorial session, students thoroughly discussed Japan's climatic characteristics and examined their impact on the nation's culture and daily life. Additionally, climate change and its consequences for Japan, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, as well as the measures undertaken by the country to address these issues, were considered.

The relevance of this topic is increasing amid current global climate changes. By studying Japan's climate system, students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the effects of natural phenomena on society and the economy, as well as to prepare for similar situations in the future.

In the future, students plan to delve deeper into topics such as Japan's climate policy, strategies for countering natural disasters, and measures to ensure environmental sustainability. These studies are also significant for Kazakhstan, as the experience of confronting climate changes and natural disasters is a pressing issue for both countries.
