«National Heritage: Tradition and Knowledge»

On February 24, 2025, Ainur Mendesh Dnibekkyzy, the fourth-year student of 6B01701 – Kazakh Language and Literature major, conducted a demo lesson on the topic: «National Musical Instruments» as a part of her teaching internship at JOO High School Almaty for the 11th-grade students in the Reading Literacy subject.
The lesson was organized within the framework of SDG 4: «Quality Education», aimed at ensuring access to knowledge and improving the quality of education through the effective use of modern technologies. The goal of the lesson was to develop the students' skills in identifying main and supplementary information in a text. The lesson began with a psychological warm-up exercise called « A Kind Word is a Joy to the Soul», where the students exchanged positive words to create a supportive atmosphere.
Then, using the «The Secret of Kazakh Ornaments» method, they were divided into three groups by scanning QR codes on the paper. In the main part of the lesson, the students watched a video about national musical instrument and identified them based on their sounds. Then they worked with texts titled «The Dombra is The Sacred Heritage of Kazakhs», «The Kobyz is The Sacred Instrument of Kazakhs», and «The Zhetygen is The Legacy of the Great Steppe». Using the «Mind Map» method, they created a mental map to organize and analyze the characteristics of the instruments. Additionally, the learners completed a test on the Wordwall platform to assess their understanding of the material. At the end of the lesson, the pupils gave a feedback and shared their thoughts via the Padlet platform. This lesson contributed to the development of the students’ creative and analytical skills by incorporating modern teaching methods and technologies. Conducted within the framework of SDG 4, the lesson not only enhanced the students’ reading literacy but also fostered a deeper appreciation of national culture.
