An excursion for the participants of the Olympiad - students of universities of Kazakhstan to the innovative laboratories of the department, performing research for the implementation of UN SDGs No. 3, 6, 7, 9 and 12

At the end of February, the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry, together with Lukoil Lubricant Central Asia LLP, held the Petrogames - 2025 Olympiad for students of various universities in Kazakhstan (KazNU, KBTU, Satpaev University, Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov). For the participants of the Olympiad, the teachers of the department organized a tour of the innovative laboratories of the chemical cluster of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Laboratories of a new type have appeared at the faculty quite recently. Bachelors, undergraduates and doctoral students of our faculty have an excellent opportunity to complete their graduation papers and participate in projects of their supervisors conducted on relevant topics in accordance with SDG No. 3 (Ensuring a healthy lifestyle and promoting well-being for all at any age); SDG No. 6 (Ensuring the availability and rational use of water resources and sanitation for all all); SDG No. 7 (Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy sources for all); SDG No. 9 (Building strong infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation) and SDG No. 12 (Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns). The laboratories are equipped with all the necessary equipment for the preparation and purification of raw materials, qualitative and quantitative analysis of reaction products, synthesis of catalysts and sorbents, determination of physico-chemical characteristics of the products obtained and the catalysts being developed. It is noteworthy that the tour of the laboratories, which served as an advertisement for the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry, was, in fact, a career-oriented conversation for students of other universities. The conditions of study at the department for master’s degree programs, the possibility of obtaining a two-degree education through an agreement with a French university were explained in detail. The participants of the excursion were briefly described the scientific directions of the department’s teaching staff. We hope that thanks to such meetings, the recruitment of students to the department will be increased.
