REVIEW LECTURES FOR STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO AS PART OF THE WINTER SCHOOL

The Department of Far East annually holds a traditional winter school with foreign partner universities. This time, from February 28 to March 11, Professor Okada Terue from the University of Tokyo visited the Division of Japan Studies together with students. The University of Tokyo and Kyoto University are among the most famous and prestigious higher education institutions in the world and are included in the QS World Ranking Top 100.
Lecturer of the Department Ph.D. Akhapov Erlan Abdievich, a graduate of Kyoto University (Japan), a leading specialist in the Divison of Japan Studies, who studies the environment and sustainable development in Japan and Kazakhstan. As part of the winter school, he gave special review lectures in Japanese to students of the University of Tokyo. Lecture topics include: UN Sustainable Development Goals, energy and environment (issues of nuclear power plant construction in Kazakhstan), cities and waste management, problems of urban transport and infrastructure, the Aral Sea and current problems of regional greening etc.
After the overview lectures, there was a lively exchange of views with students. Professor Okada's research laboratory is engaged in in-depth research of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. Students supplemented their coursework with Professor Okada's lectures at the University of Tokyo and field training in Kazakhstan - special overview lectures.
