The best participants of the "Physchemist – 2025" olympiad have been determined

The International Olympiad "Physchemist – 2025" in honor of Professor H.K. Ospanov was held at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The Olympiad is aimed at improving the quality of higher education and enhancing the competitiveness of graduates in the labor market in line with the goals of sustainable development.

Students from the third and fourth years of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), E.A. Buketov Karaganda Research University (KarU), L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU, Astana), Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU, Russia), and other universities participated in the Olympiad. They had previously successfully passed the qualifying rounds.

The opening ceremony featured welcoming speeches by: the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, PhD, Associate Professor A.K. Galeeva, Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis, and Petrochemistry, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor E.A. Aubakirov, and Professor of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis, and Petrochemistry A.K.Ospanova.

The Olympiad was held in a mixed online/offline format and consisted of two rounds. In the first round, participants were tested on topics from the "Physical Chemistry" course: chemical thermodynamics and chemical kinetics. The testing was conducted on the educational platform "Kahoot." In the second round, participants were required to solve three problems of varying difficulty within three hours. All tasks were aimed at assessing the cognitive, functional, and systemic competencies of students in the field of physical chemistry.

The participants' work was evaluated by an authoritative jury composed of leading professors from our university, as well as from KarU, ENU, NSTU, Mirzo Ulugbek National University (NUUz), and I. Arabayev Kazakh State University (KSU). Based on the jury's results, the winners were determined. The following students were awarded diplomas: 1st degree – Makhsat Yergeshov (KazNU), Askar Mukanov (KazNU), 2nd degree – Ilya Bondarchik (NSTU), Artem Lapvinov (NSTU), 3rd degree – Tamerlan Massagutov (ENU), Tatiana Borisova (NSTU), Dmitry Zuev (NSTU), Gulmai Zhumanova (KSU). Other students were awarded certificates for active participation in the Olympiad.

The sponsors of the Olympiad were: the IT company "Shakeshev", Kainaubek Tostai, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Polymer and Oil Catalytic Hydrogenation Group at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and the company of Professor H.K. Ospanov's grandson, Akbar Ermekov, "Chief Data Scientist".

Thanks to the sponsors, the winners of the Olympiad also received monetary certificates: 100,000 tenge for 1st place, 75,000 tenge for 2nd place, and 50,000 tenge for 3rd place.

The organization and conduct of the Olympiad were actively supported by the faculty, doctoral students, and students of the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis, and Petrochemistry under the leadership of Professor E.A. Aubakirov.
