Bridging School and University: A Step Toward Informed Career Choice

On March 28, 2025, in the Alatau district of Almaty city, the district seminar of the Natural Sciences Association was held at the State Municipal Institution "School-Gymnasium No. 182" on the topic “Effective Directions for Career Guidance for Learners in Modern Conditions.” The event was organized by the Scientific and Methodological Center for New Technologies in Education of the Alatau District.
As part of the achievement of SDG 4 – "Quality Education" (4.3.4 Educational and awareness-raising activities beyond the university complex), the seminar was attended by Associate Professor M.Zh. Kerimkulova from the Department of Analytical, Colloid Chemistry and Technology of Rare Elements, and K.M. Akmurzaeva, Head of the Alatau District Education Department.
The administration and teachers of “School-Gymnasium No. 182” demonstrated a high level of professionalism in organizing the seminar program. The main goal of the event was to explore modern methods of career guidance, identify effective approaches, and discuss practical techniques. The seminar organizers presented ways to select in-demand educational programs based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 19, 2019, No. 27, “On the Development of the Atlas of New Professions and Competencies in Demand in the Labor Market.” They also shared approaches for identifying transforming or disappearing professions.
In her presentation, Associate Professor M.Zh. Kerimkulova highlighted the opportunities offered by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in training professionals in 9 priority economic sectors outlined in the Atlas. The school also organized an exhibition showcasing the various talents and achievements of its students.
Such events align with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 – “Quality Education” – and strengthen ties between schools and universities, ultimately making it easier for students to choose a profession, a university, and a path toward their future.
