Gender Equality: Women’s History and Women’s Studies

On April 11, 2025, Akerke Nurmukhanbet, the first-year Master's degree student in Foreign Philology, conducted an educational event on the topic: "Gender Equality: Women’s History and Women’s Studies" as a part of her pedagogical practice within the framework of SDG 5: Gender Equality. The event was held under the guidance of E.A. Morugova, a lecturer at the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies. During the event, the students discussed gender equality, the historical role of women, and the importance of women’s studies. The main objective was to raise awareness of women's contributions to society and to encourage critical thinking on gender-related issues.
A video on gender equality was shown, followed by a discussion. The students actively shared their thoughts and exchanged opinions on the challenges of gender inequality in today’s world. In addition, a quiz game called "Who is it?" was conducted. In this activity, students were presented with descriptions of famous women from history and were asked to identify them. Figures such as Marie Curie, Rosa Parks, Fatima al-Fihri, Tomyris, and Aliya Moldagulova were featured.
A brainstorming session was also held with the following key questions:
What comes to your mind when you hear the term "gender equality"?
What do you know about the role of women in history?
Why are women's studies important today?
At the end of the event, the students expressed their thoughts freely and emphasized the valuable insights they had gained. The entire session was conducted in Kazakh.
