THE ROLE OF CAREER GUIDANCE IN CHOOSING A FUTURE PROFESSION: AWAKENING INTEREST IN CHEMISTRY

The aability of each student to choose the right future profession is his future, destiny, existence and even life. The most important thing is to choose the profession you want, not imitating others, but following the dictates of your heart. This is a great responsibility. Therefore, it is precisely the systematic career guidance work in schools that will allow the younger generation to consciously choose their future profession without making mistakes.
To help 10th grade students of School № 198 in Almaty choose their future profession, first-year master's students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University are conducting career guidance work.
The school held an open lesson on the topic related to sustainable development: "Combating climate change, green chemistry and ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions." The purpose of this lesson was to deepen the understanding of energy issues and the use of renewable sources as part of the training on the topic: "Ways to combat climate change" in accordance with SDG 13.
The students first explained the topic and purpose of the lesson to the schoolchildren, and then provided basic information about climate change and the role of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The concept of green chemistry and its importance in environmentally friendly production processes were discussed, as well as ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydropower, etc.) and their advantages. A question and answer session was organized for better assimilation of the material.
The experiment called "Snake under the sand" aroused great interest among schoolchildren, after which the master's students had to answer many questions. All this aroused genuine interest and changed the attitude of high school students to chemistry, they understood the importance of this branch. Many expressed a desire to enroll in our faculty and engage in scientific work. Representatives of the Chemistry Department invited schoolchildren on a tour of the faculty's laboratories.
PerHaps not all the children present at the lesson will become chemists, but many will definitely become interested in this science. After all, career guidance is a process that helps each school graduate develop an interest in the profession and make an informed choice of a future specialty, taking into account the abilities and inclinations of each student, based on the needs of society. After all, the main hope of our future society is today's high school students. That is why career guidance in schools is so important today.
