“Knowing Multiple Languages Opens the Door to New Opportunities”

On April 16, 2025, the first-year master’s degree students majoring in “7M01704 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” held an educational event on the topic: “Knowing Multiple Languages Opens the Door to New Opportunities” as a part of their pedagogical practice, under the guidance of lecturers from the Department of Turkic Studies and Language Theory, Faculty of Philology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Akmaral Karymkhan, Balnur Nurlangazykyzy, Ayana Kartabaeva, and Aiym Kontek.
The purpose of the event was to highlight the benefits of multilingualism, to emphasize the importance of language acquisition in the era of globalization, and to support the students' professional and personal development. The event also aimed at enhancing the participants’ communication skills and stimulate their interest in learning languages.
As a part of the educational event, the debate on the topic: “Does Knowing Many Languages Undermine the Value of One’s Native Language, or Does It Offer Greater Opportunities?” was held. The students discussed the advantages of multilingualism and its impact on their mother tongue, demonstrating critical thinking skills. In addition, an engaging Q&A-style language quiz was organized, allowing the participants to share their knowledge about world languages and translation specifics.
In conclusion, this educational event inspired the students and increased their enthusiasm for multilingualism. It offered a deeper understanding of the idea: “Learn all the languages you can, but respect your native one.”
