Working Meeting with IWMI Representatives Held under the “Water Diplomacy” Program

On April 22, 2025, the Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources Management and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology organized a working meeting within the framework of the educational program "7M05220 – Water Diplomacy", developed under the Blue Peace initiative in Central Asia.

The meeting was attended by Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, Head of the Regional Office of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Central Asia, Danila Uvarov, IWMI Project Coordinator in Kazakhstan, member of the Board for Scientific and Innovative Activities, Vice-Rector Margulan Ibraimov, Director of the Academic Affairs Department Bakyt Kuanyshbekovna Rakhimbekova, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Natural Resource Management Aliya Sagyndykovna Aktymbaeva, as well as the Deputy Head of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology for Educational, Methodological, and Training Activities, professors, associate professors, and senior lecturers.

During the event, presentations on the activities of IWMI and the role of the Blue Peace initiative in Central Asia were presented. Topics discussed included strengthening the dialogue between science and politics, training of personnel, and the development of international cooperation.

Special attention was given to SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, within the context of achieving sustainable development goals and effective water resource management. The importance of using Geographic Information Systems and innovative solutions for ecological sustainability and efficient water resource management was highlighted.

Furthermore, important issues regarding the launch of the joint Master's program "7M05220 – Water Diplomacy" were discussed. Topics covered included the academic content of the program, international partnerships, funding opportunities, and institutional support pathways.

As a result of the meeting, a concrete action plan was developed, and the next steps and timelines for the implementation of the program were agreed upon. Contact persons were appointed for effective communication.
